Student Benefits (All photos provided by courtesy of Job Corps center operators under contract to the US Department of Labor)

As part of Job Corps, students are entitled to certain paid benefits. Usually, pay starts at $25 every two weeks. Raises are given every three months. Please browse through this page for more details.

Arrival Pay

Students will not receive regular pay the first three weeks of the program, but will instead receive $25 on the first Thursday after they arrive on center.

Student Employee Pay

Student pay is every other Tuesday at the following rates:

1-56 paid days: $25
57-112 paid days: $30
113-182 paid days: $40
183+ paid days: $50

A student receives her paycheck. (All photos provided by courtesy of Job Corps center operators under contract to the US Department of Labor.)

All students must have an ID card to be paid. Please note pay is based on PAID days or active pay status. Students are not in active pay status if they are AWOL (Absent WithOut Leave) or on an Unpaid Administrative leave. Students who do not sign in on the dorm roster each morning will have their pay deducted for the particular day they fail to sign in. Student pay may be subject to change due to Social Security, Medicare and Federal Income Tax. Other deductions may apply.

Clothing Allowance and Issuance

The number of days students have spent in active pay status determines when they are eligible to receive a clothing allowance. The first scheduled clothing allowance will be spent on academic and/or vocational uniforms. The price of the uniforms is deducted from the first allowance amount, and the remainder of the first allowance amount is carried over to the second allowance. All clothes, except the uniforms, are purchased off center. Students will be issued clothing allowances according to the following schedule:

Active Pay Status and Value of Uniform/Clothing:

30-60 days/ $100
180 days/ $100
300 days/ $117
420 days/ $103
740 days/ $103

If you need additional clothing for Work Based Learning or college or have an emergency request for clothing, please contact your counselor.

Transition Payment

Transition pay is a sum of money students can use to get started in their new jobs and new, independent lives. It can be used for security deposits or first month's rent on housing, for a down payment on a car, to buy clothes needed for job interviews or employment, or to cover other costs associated with starting a new job or securing housing.

Student separates normally with a GED completion only:
Transition Payment = $250

Student separates normally with a Vocational completion:

Student separates normally with a GED and Vocational completion. GED or High School Diploma may have been attained off-center:
Transition Payment = $1200

Negative Terminations

Transition Payment = $0

Student separates as a result of disciplinary action:
Transition Payment = $0

Student separates as AWOL – Absent WithOut Leave:

Child Allotment

If a student has a dependent child, the student may be eligible to send a child allotment to that child's temporary guardian. A student is allowed to send $5, $10 or $15 to the guardian out of each bi-weekly paycheck. The federal government will match 5 times the student contribution. This allotment can begin on the student's 57th day with Job Corps. In order to participate in the child allotment program, the student must provide a copy of the child's birth certificate stating that the student is the parent and proof of the child's temporary guardian or, if it is a business, a tax ID number.

If you signed up for a child allotment when you enrolled in the Job Corps program, you can direct any questions you might have to the Records Department, (270) 338-5460, extension 3262, 3263 or 3264.

Change in Student Record

If there is a change in name, social security number, address, etc., a student should notify his/her counselor of the change with proper verification. A change of address can only be done after the student has provided a letter from his or her next of kin and a utility bill showing the new address.

During any type of leave or if a student is terminated from the Job Corps program for any reason, that student is sent to his/her address of record. Therefore, students are asked to be sure to give plenty of notice for any change in address .

Questions

Students who have any questions or need to review their file for any reason may come to the Records Department in the Administration Building during their lunch period or after class.
