Students and staff from MCDC enjoyed the satisfaction of using their skills and energy to help an area family by volunteering to help build a Habitat for Humanity house in Central City, Kentucky. The house, owned by the Frankie and Ashley Piper family, was dedicated during a ceremony on October 14. The Pipers have three children, and are expecting their fourth child in late November.
Students and staff from Facilities Maintenance, Brick Masonry, Plumbing and Heavy Equipment Operator worked on the 1,056 square-foot house. This is the second Habitat house that MCDC students have helped build. The first house was built at MCDC and transported to its permanent site in Drakesboro, Kentucky. MCDC students also made two trips to the Gulf Coast region to work on Job Corps/Habitat building blitz to build houses for families who lost their homes when hurricanes struck that region in 2005. |
