What to bring:

What NOT to bring:
- Expensive jewelry
- Beepers/pagers
- Large boom boxes or radios
- Clothes advertising alcohol or tobacco
- Negative attitudes
You are allowed to bring two pieces of luggage and a carry-on.
Pick-up
The Center bus pick-up is at the baggage claim area at the Greyhound Station in Madisonville, Ky. The Airport pick-up is in Evansville, Ind., at the baggage claim area. If you miss your bus or plane, call Center at (270) 338-5460 and talk to the records clerk or counselor at Ext. 3262, 3263 or 3264.
The staff members picking you up will identify themselves and will have an identification card. If you arrive by bus, the staff member will be wearing an identification card and the vehicle will have government tags.
What the center will provide
The center will provide uniforms (including boots and jacket). You will benefit from free medical, vision and dental care. Linens and laundry detergent will be provided as deemed necessary by professional staff.
Arrival at MCDC
You will be assigned a room on your first night on center. Each dorm has a community shower with separate stalls. You will have four to six roommates, depending on availability of rooms. Student responsibilities include keeping your living area clean. Each day your room/dorm will be inspected for cleanliness. Each night you are assigned a detail task to ensure the cleanliness of your dorm.
Orientation
The first week on center you will be required to get your physicals and have lab work (shots and vaccines). You will take the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) and you will start the Career Preparation Period (CPP)
You will be enrolled in the Center Orientation Program "Choices" for the first 60 days you are on Center. You will learn about center rules, programs and benefits. You will also have extensive career counseling before selecting a vocational skill. You will be introduced to the Career Development Services Case Manager who will work with you the entire time you are on center and for one full year after completing the program and being placed in a job, the military, or in college. |
