Muhlenberg Career Development Center and Madisonville Community College
The co-enrollment program is a joint venture between Muhlenberg Career Development Center and Madisonville Community College. The program serves up to 50 students from a variety of local communities in or near the MCDC and Madisonville Community College area. All students interested in the co-enrollment program must meet the standard Job Corps eligibility criteria and possess a high school diploma or a GED. They must also show proof that they are eligible for and can receive financial aid to attend the community college, and have a plan for transportation to and from the Community College sites. All transportation to and from the Job Corps center will be staged from the community college sites.
If candidates have children, they also must demonstrate that they have an acceptable childcare plan to provide childcare for their dependents while they are involved with the Job Corps and college activities. All students must be eligible to attend both MCDC and Madisonville Community College prior to their enrollment in the program.
Students will participate in the Career Preparation Period (CPP) prior to beginning their studies in one of the college/technical programs. Subjects covered in CPP will include an Introduction to Job Corps, social skills training, leadership training, diversity, wellness and workplace communications. All students must complete the medical requirements before enrolling in the co-enrollment program.
During CPP, students will be encouraged to enroll in the Business Technology program. The expectation is that all students will emerge with a complete understanding of standard business English, the ability to type a minimum of 35 word per minute and the ability to use a wide variety of office machines, including computers and software programs. This training is important because all students will be required to learn and demonstrate their skills via the computer and the Internet while attending college and while employed.
The Madisonville Community College offers a diversified curriculum that includes technical courses of study recognized within the Job Corps system. Students will be able to continue their education in the areas of:
- Business Technology (accounting, management, office systems options)
- Medical Office Technology (medical transcription, insurance coding, medical records or administrative assistant)
- Clinical Laboratory Technology (phlebotomy technician, phlebotomy for the health care worker and physician office laboratory)
- Surgical first assistant
- Industrial Maintenance Technician Electrical Technology (electrician apprentice, residential electrician, construction electrician)
