Job Corps is America's oldest, largest and most effective residential and career training program for eligible youth, ages 16 to 24. The program offers students an opportunity to earn a high school diploma or GED, train for a new career, prepare for higher education, and gain the practical and social skills they need to succeed in the workplace and in life.
The mission of Job Corps, a public-private partnership administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, is to assist young individuals who need and can benefit from an unusually intensive program of academic and career training, and personal and social development that enables them to become more responsible, employable and productive citizens.
Since 1964, the program has provided more than 2 million young people with the integrated academic, career and social skills training they need to gain independence and get quality, long-term jobs or further their education.
Job Corps works for everyone. It works for the youth who attend the program, for communities where Job Corps centers are located and for employers who hire Job Corps students. It also works for other individuals — like educators and school and peer counselors who may want to refer a young person to Job Corps.
To apply for Job Corps, prospective enrollees can contact Job Corps free by calling:
1-800-733-JOBS (1-800-733-5627)
The person answering the call will explain Job Corps' eligibility requirements and benefits, answer questions, and refer the prospective student to an admissions counselor in the local area.
